Choose an SSL Certificate with Organization Validation OV

Protects the main domain and subdomains at a selected level. This level is defined by the * symbol. That is, when ordering, you can specify that the certificate will be valid for *example.com. Then, example.com, mail.example.com, sale.example.com, and so on will all be protected. Recommended if you have one main site with many subdomains.

An OV certificate is the right choice if you have a registered company. SSL with OV is the best solution in terms of cost and the level of trust it provides. However, for large brands and additional protection against phishing, we recommend EV certificates. Private individuals are only issued DV certificates. To obtain an OV certificate, you need to pass a two-step verification process: confirm that you own the domain and that your company really exists.  

1. Domain ownership is usually verified in two ways:
   • By mail: when placing an order, you must provide an email address from the same domain as the site for which the certificate is to be issued. The certification center will send a link to that address. Click the link to get verified.
   • By txt record in DNS: through this method, you receive a TXT record. Its contents must be placed on your DNS server.
2. When verifying an organization, the certification center studies whether there are records about it in the public domain. They look at data from the tax service register, directories of organizations, and other public directories. If anything is missing, they write to the customer with a request to submit additional documents. It usually takes a few days to receive an OV certificate.

OV certificates contain data about the domain, the name of the site's owner, the validity period, and the name of the certification center. If a visitor to the website clicks the lock icon in the browser address bar, this information will be displayed.

• Phishing is a major type of fraud. Attackers create a fake website under the guise of a real company. To do so, they register a domain similar to that of the victim's website, for example, by replacing an ‘o’ in the name with a ‘0’. They deploy a copy of the site there and then collect personal data or even accept payments from visitors.
• Phishing sites only use simple DV certificates as they would not qualify to receive more complex OV certificates from certification centers.
• An OV certificate helps to verify the authenticity of a website. If a visitor to a site with an OV-SSL clicks on the lock in the browser address bar, the name of the company that owns the site will appear.
