In short, the quality of encryption in Let's Encrypt is as strong as that of commercial certificates—newer versions of browsers and search engines will trust them. However, Let's Encrypt may be less convenient to use as it lacks some options. They also may not work correctly in older browsers and systems. Technically, a Let's Encrypt certificate can work on any website just like any other certificate. It provides strong encryption over HTTPS protocol so user data can not be intercepted or stolen. But we recommend Let's Encrypt only for small personal sites that do not accept payments, such as blogs or business cards.
Let's Encrypt certificates do not contain information about the company that owns the domain, so we do not recommend them for sites that accept payments or for large brands. It could make the site attractive to phishing attacks. Besides, visitors to the real site will not be able to verify its authenticity using an SSL certificate.
We also do not recommend Let's Encrypt if you need to protect multiple domains and subdomains; the certificate must be installed separately for each site.
The main limit is 50 certificates per week per registered domain. For example, for www.example.com, the registered domain is example.com. For new.blog.example.co.uk, the registered domain is example.co.uk. You can also create a maximum of 300 new orders per account every three hours.
