Domain Days 2024: A Platform for Connection and Growth in the Tech Community

"Many went out and continued discussions in local restaurants and bars. It was incredible to see the community forming organically; it confirmed that this event had tapped into something needed and valued." This is how Munir Badr, Founder & Curator of Domain Days, described Domain Days 2023.

Today, the Domain Days conference kicked off for the second time.

We asked Munir Badr what Domain Days means to him and how he realized the need to continue. He also shared with us insights into the business culture and industry in the UAE, its prospects, how he started his business, and why it was successful. We will publish this part of the interview later. If you’d like, subscribe to our community so you don’t miss it →

Why did I start Domain Days?
"Starting Domain Days was my way of giving back to the community. I’ve built my business by learning from others, attending events, and making connections. There wasn’t a similar event that brought people in the domain, hosting, and cloud space together, so I felt it was time to create that opportunity. It’s my way of contributing and fostering collaboration within our industry."

The biggest challenge in starting Domain Days?
"The logistics were tough, from permits to finding the right venue and partners. I knew the concept was solid, but the UAE didn’t have an event like this, so there was no template to follow. Gaining initial support and showing people the value took time. But step by step, we got there."

Advice for Domain Days participants?
"Set specific goals for networking. Go in with a plan: know who you want to meet, what you hope to learn, and how you’ll follow up. Quality connections are more valuable than quantity, so prioritize meaningful interactions. And don’t hesitate to engage with local experts; there’s so much you can learn about this region. Be active in discussions, ask questions, and take the time to build relationships. That’s where the real value lies."

Top 3 Highlights from Domain Days 2024 by ispmanager

Africa: A Promising Market. This was the focus of the session UAE: The Strategic Gateway to Africa’s Emerging Markets. With a large and diverse population, a wealth of talent, and significant investment potential, Africa is emerging as an attractive market.

Maksim Darulis, ispmanager CCO: “At @ispmanager, we conducted a study on the African market, and while it shows great promise for hosting providers, it's not expected to blossom in the immediate future. The leading GDP countries, such as Egypt, South Africa, and Nigeria, offer a relatively free environment due to limited hosting regulations and the lack of large local providers. This leaves customers with few options beyond a small number of dominant international providers. Additionally, there’s considerable room for growth in the region’s domain space.”

Domain Auction by RightOfTheDot. The team from RightOfTheDot.com held an exciting domain auction. One domain priced at $100,000 attracted a lot of attention, although it didn’t sell. If you’re curious about the name, feel free to ask Monte Cahn on LinkedIn.
